Here’s a list of what you need to do, to continue your work legally. In order to handle compliance and registration tasks for you, we need a completed power of attorney form.

HAUL COMMODITIES FOR HIRE

What you need to haul commodities for hire only in Nebraska (INTRASTATE) with gross vehicle weight (GVW):

Over 10,000 lbs.
Over 55,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at county level
  • U.S. DOT Nebraska number
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #05
  • hazmat registration for hazardous materials (if applicable)
  • vehicle registered at county level
  • U.S. DOT Nebraska number
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #05
  • hazmat registration for hazardous materials (if applicable)
  • pay federal heavy vehicle use tax
  • pay unified carrier registration (UCR) fee

You must have the tax receipt in order to register vehicle. Truck Services can complete the forms for you and usually get a stamped receipt the same day.

What you need to haul commodities for hire in Nebraska and in other states (INTERSTATE) with gross vehicle weight (GVW):

Over 55,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at country level if its GVW is between 10,000 and 26,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at state level to prorate fees if GVW is more than 26,000 pounds
  • Surface Transportation Board (STB) federal authority
  • MCS-150 (U.S. DOT number)
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #05
  • IFTA fuel tax permit and decals if GVW is more than 26,000 pounds
  • hazmat registration for hazardous materials (if applicable)
  • vehicle registered at country level if its GVW is between 10,000 and 26,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at state level to prorate fees if GVW is more than 26,000 pounds

HAUL FOR COMMON/CONTRACT CARRIER

To haul for a common or contract carrier with vehicle plates in your name, you must be a Nebraska resident with proof of residency or an established place of business in Nebraska.

Over 55,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at state level to prorate fees if GVW is more than 26,000 lbs.
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #01
  • MCS-150 (U.S. DOT number)
  • IFTA fuel tax permit and decals if your vehicle is over 26,000 lbs. and you are reporting your own fuel and miles
  • vehicle registered at state level to prorate fees if GVW is more than 26,000 lbs.

  • MCS-150 (U.S. DOT number)
  • IFTA fuel tax permit and decals if your vehicle is over 26,000 lbs. and you are reporting your own fuel and miles

If you occasionally get a load that requires crossing the state line, we can help you with the trip permit you need for the state you’re entering.

  • vehicle registered at county level if its GVW is between 10,000 and 26,000 pounds
  • vehicle registered at state level in International Registration Plan (IRP) if it’s more than 26,000 pounds
  • International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) permit and decals for vehicle over 26,000 pounds
  • a completed MCS-150 and U.S. DOT number
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #05
  • pay federal heavy vehicle use tax (HVUT)

You must have the HVUT receipt to register your vehicle at either the county or state level. We can help you complete your HVUT Form 2290 tax return. We can usually get the stamped HVUT receipt in one business day or less. We can also help you complete the MCS-150/DOT number application and your application for sales tax exemption.

  • If applicable to your products, a hazardous materials registration.
  • Pay federal heavy vehicle use tax (HVUT).
