Business Activities Tax Simplification Act of 2010

Will unfair tax assessments on interstate carriers ever end? The American Trucking Associations (ATA) is part of a large coalition supporting H.R. 1083, the Business Activities Tax Simplification Act of 2010, also known as BATSA. The legislation attempts to restrict states from imposing corporate income as well as other business taxes on interstate commerce unless those activities have substantial nexus in the state. A House Subcommittee had a hearing on BATSA earlier this month. ATA submitted testimony highlighting the trucking industry’s specific problems with state business taxes, noting other areas where state tax practices have forced Congress to enact legislation protecting interstate carriers.
